Domodedovo Airport

Project: International passenger terminal
Location: Domodedovo Airport, Moscow
Brief: 48,000 sq.m terminal building, airside and landside facilities
Concept completed: April 1998

The brief required a concept for an ultimately flexible solution where sections of the terminal building could be leased to various carriers, and expansion could take place without disruption. The design proposed is based on a modular system which allows for the phased building of up to 5 mini-terminals. Each module may be autonomous, has all the necessary facilities to operate independently, and is designed to cope with up to 700 passengers per hour. The units can work together as one large terminal as both airside and landside facilities can be opened to run the length of the terminal, with services located in a central strip.
