Landmark Tower, Dublin

Project: International competition for landmark tower
Location: Dublin, Ireland
Brief: 10000 sq.m mixed-use development with 2 levels of nightclub and restaurants, 7000 sq.m of residential units and a rooftop studio for U2
Submitted: February 2003

The proposed design is made up of three main, distinct elements, each making a loose, but symbolic connection with Dublin, the docks and maritime history: The hull – a raised wooden clad box housing nightclub / restaurant facilities. The sail – the main volume of the tower housing residential units. The beacon – a rotating studio for U2. These elements are separated by a gap or transparent level, so that they can be clearly identified. The main tower is twelve storeys of residential units around a central core / lobby space. The south façade of the tower is sloped to provide south facing terraces on all levels. The U2 studio stands above the main tower as an independent object and rotates 360 degrees.
